IMFDF | International Muslim Fashion & Design Festival, Toronto 2014 | Ottawa Photographer

I have been waiting for this weekend all summer, and it finally arrived! Ever since I first started getting into social media to help market my photography, I began to discover some amazing online personalities. The first one I ever found that was Muslim, was Dina Torkia (a.k.a. Dina Toki-o) and I fell in love with her style and personality. I never really contemplated meeting her, since she lives in the U.K. however when she started traveling I hoped she would visit Toronto (where I was living at the time). I began to look for more local bloggers that I could possibly collaborate with in the future as I took an interest in fashion photography, and I didn’t have to look far. I found Babylailalov on Youtube, who is also known as Nura, and left her a note saying I would love to shoot with her if she ever came to Canada. This all happened at least 2 years ago mind you!

Around that time, one of my oldest friends started Youtube, she goes by Nora Tehaili, and I finally got a chance to do some real fashion photography with her. You can see my first set with her here. After a while, her sister – probably my closest friend Hanan (Hijabs by Hanan) started Youtube as well! We have enjoyed working together on several shoots here in Ottawa over the last year. You can see the first one here, and another recently here. I also had the honor to do her engagement shoot before her wedding that took place in Lebanon.

Finally, when I heard about IMFDF, I knew I had to be there. I also made it my goal to get photos of the international bloggers for myself. I am so glad I was able to meet them, and hope I can travel to their cities to work with them there as well.

This event was hosted by Nateka, owner of Victorious Me – and with her team she was able to pull off a successful weekend of fashion, shopping and good vibes!

Then it got fun, between the fashion shows I took a break and got to meet the extremely talented Antar who is an LA based photographer, and known as IAMSHOOTER. I was very honored to meet him, and he was kind enough to share his photography knowledge with me. I am always thankful to meet a humble photographer who will share, because many of them don’t – you would be surprised. Here are some of the behind the scenes while he was helping Irene shoot for her blog.

While I was shooting him, he also got an amazing shot of me as well – so thank you for that!

I also met his brother, Ayyub, who is the founder of Elegant Cloth – they do some amazing work, please check them out!

This is my gorgeous little sister <3

On Saturday, there was a VIP After party to meet the bloggers and enjoy some performances by Toronto performance artists.
