Jamie Lynn and Jonathan’s downtown Ottawa engagement session is a heartwarming tale of love that began in an unexpected place—the Heart and Crown in the ByWard Market. Despite the challenges of a long-distance relationship and unpredictable weather, their love story has blossomed into a beautiful journey filled with shared dreams, adventures, and now, an impending wedding.
On that fateful day of July 1st, 2012, Jamie Lynn and Jonathan crossed paths at the cozy Heart and Crown. Little did they know that this encounter would be the start of something extraordinary. The initial spark between them quickly evolved into a long-distance relationship, with late-night phone calls, frequent road trips between Toronto and Ottawa, and a connection that deepened over time.
As their relationship grew, so did their shared life. From Marley Avenue to a renovation project at Black Friars, they navigated quarantine together, opened a bakery, welcomed a furry new family member, and built their dream home from the ground up. Their story is layered with love, intention, and a deep-rooted commitment to growing together.
Over the past decade, they’ve explored far-off places, celebrated milestones, and supported each other through the highs and lows of life. Their personal and professional growth has been nothing short of inspiring, and their love continues to anchor it all.
I first met Jamie Lynn through our local wedding industry. From seeing her at wedding shows to photographing her stunning treats on wedding days, we connected effortlessly. It was an absolute honour when she asked me to photograph their wedding. And yes—if you’re planning your big day, you need to check out her incredible work at Batter Up Bakery.
For their engagement session, we chose downtown Ottawa as our backdrop—a location full of meaning and contrast. We went back to where it all began. It gave us the perfect canvas for a session that was both refined and relaxed. We were also joined by a stylist to support multiple outfit changes and bring an extra layer of polish to the overall experience. The result felt effortless, personal, and beautifully editorial. We also brought in a stylist to support the session. With a few intentional outfit changes, the entire shoot felt cohesive and editorial, but still deeply personal.
Jamie Lynn and Jonathan have that quiet, lived-in love that shows up in the small moments. The way they walk in sync without thinking, the inside jokes, the softness in their energy. When couples have grown together over time, there’s a different kind of ease in front of the lens.
As we wandered the city, from cobblestone streets to exclusive rooftop views, we embraced every unexpected moment—including a surprise summer rainstorm that made their photos all the more memorable.
If you’re considering an engagement session in downtown Ottawa, there’s so much versatility here. The city core offers texture, architecture, and unexpected beauty. Jamie Lynn and Jonathan’s engagement session captured everything I love about photographing couples in this season of their story—connection, laughter, history, and quiet moments that say more than words ever could.
